LOVE SPEAKTH NOT

LOVE SPEAKTH NOT

Love is silent
It speaketh not thro’ thy lips
For thy lips expresseth not to its heart’s content
It is not valuable
Concealed in thy heart of hearts
Where no one sees now hears
But maybe thro;’ the beat of thy heart
Where no one but the beholders
Knows thy secret
For thy heart keepeth secrets best
Such love that I do bestow my honey.

Not declarations of love
For when doth love speaketh?
Such empty words that deceiveth thy wit
That drowns thy gullible mind
Such futile promises that are never fulfilled
That mars love true beauty
For such arewords capable
To thind thy naked eye
That sees not thy quiet heart
Gifts are but strapped in paper
Beautifully patterned to blue thy vision
Thy display of love are but ornaments
Ornaments that mayst one day wear off.

But true love lasteth where thy eyes do never see
Love that maintains its unfaching beauty
Such love I bare to my honey
Love that whispers not for thy ears to hear
Love that now schoes treble soft
For love is silent in thy heart.

THE CORAL
From Korallen by Katarina Frostenson, poet and member of the Swedish Academy.

The sighing of the first dies away in the dark;

A language rises there and drifts off, close to sleep.

It moves like the speaker, among the trunks and the murmuring.

You that walk by day or night you wander between the trees.

Be not masterful I follow in your footsteps.
